Name: Roland R. "Bing" Boucher Dates: Birth date: January 10, 1919 Death date: February 21, 2010 Obituary: Roland R. ‘Bing’ Boucher, 91, of Jaffrey passed away Feb. 21, 2010 at home after a long illness. He was born in Lebanon, NH on Jan. 10, 1919, son of Raoul and Wilda Boucher. He attended Lebanon schools, was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire earning a BA and an MA degree in History and did graduate work at Harvard and Boston University. Bing was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan during the occupation. After the war, he taught History at West Lebanon High School where he also coached the 1948 basketball team to a State Championship. From 1949-1952, he taught at Vermont Junior College in Montpelier, VT. He taught History at Conant High School from 1952-1962. In 1956, he coached, with great pride, the Conant baseball team to their first and only, so far, State Championship. Bing worked for the NH Department of Education from 1962-1964 and became Assistant Principal at Keene High School in 1964 where he worked for seventeen years until his retirement in 1981. Among his other accomplishments, he served as State Director of the AARP, President of Retired Educators Association, member of St. Patrick’s School Board, Diocese School Board in Manchester, Keene Diocese Deanery and lector at St. Patrick’s Church. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Boucher of Jaffrey, daughters Marilyn Bean of Dublin and Barbara O’Connor of Danville, CA, sons Roy Drew of Dugway, UT and Dean Drew of Holladay, UT, twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bing’s memory to the Roland R. Boucher Scholarship, 3 Conant Way, Jaffrey, NH 03452, attention Patty Proulx. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Mar. 4 at 11:00 o’clock at St. Patrick’s Church, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH. Cemetery: Private burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey will be at the convenience of the family. |
