Barbara Ann Rosenberg Fried

August 1, 1928 — March 7, 2009

Jaffrey, NH

Barbara Ann Rosenberg Fried, at 80, died on March 7, 2009 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

She was the daughter of Samuel and Alice Rosenberg. She was born on August 1, 1928 and raised in New York and Florida.

Barbara had a long and varied life as a newspaper reporter for the Boynton BeachNews in Florida during the early 1950s. She then traded print media for electronic and was one of the original "Liz Girls", working as a disc jockey for WLIZ Radio in Lake Worth, Florida during the 1960s. During this time she also worked with the manager of Elvis Presley and had an opportunity to meet the King.

She and her husband, Robert Fried, moved to Greenville, NH and for many years she was the Town Clerk. She also served as a NH state legislator from Greenville and will be best remembered for her "Pig Farm" battle. In later years she moved to Jaffrey and became well known by the Meals-on Wheels drivers who always enjoyed their daily conversations with her. She was fiercely independent and always wanted to be in control of her daily living, which the drivers deeply respected. She was a voracious reader, a skilled tatterer, and completely in charge of her living.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, and her beloved sister, Edith Hirsch, and her brother, Robert Rosenberg.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and by her close friends, Bernice Monkton, who worked with her for many years at the Suisse Chalet, and Betty Hilliard, a dear friend of over 50 years.

There will be no calling hours or services at this time.
