Brian A. McDonald

Brian A. McDonald, 75, of Main Street in Dublin, NH, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday June 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Brian was born in the middle of the Great New England Hurricane on September 27, 1938 in Peterborough, NH, son of the late James N. and Genuoveffa (Boccelli) McDonald. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Peterborough High School. He worked briefly as an auto mechanic at Fontaine Ford in Peterborough before joining his wife’s family business. Brian ultimately purchased the Dublin Oil Company and operated the business and all of its essential elements ranging from fuel delivery to cleaning and servicing customer’s boilers. In 1988, Brian sold the business to A. W. Peters in Peterborough and continued to work with the Peters family until he retired in 2001. Brian enjoyed serving his community and was a firefighter with the town of Dublin for over 25 years. He served as a Forest Fire Warden from 1968 to 1989 and as Deputy Fire Chief of the Dublin Fire Department from 1968 to 1987 Most recently, Brian had been able to spend much of his free time with his family, playing harmonica with his grandson, solving word find puzzles, and refining his good taste in food by watching various cooking shows. In addition to his parents, Brian was predeceased by a grandson, Alfred Mark Briggs, and by his step-mother, Anna Mae (Dumas) McDonald. Brian is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucy (Pellerin) McDonald of Dublin; his daughter Penelope Lee Briggs and her husband Mark of Peterborough; his son Brian Christopher McDonald and his wife Melanie of Jaffrey; his grandchildren, Jennifer Roggenkamp and her husband Frank of Peterborough, Eric, Megan, Andrew and Lucille Briggs, all of Peterborough, and Henry Orion McDonald of Jaffrey; his brother James McDonald of Damascus, Oregon and many close friends. Friends and family are warmly invited to calling hours on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00PM and from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Saint Peter's Church of the Divine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine Street, Peterborough on Thursday June 12, 2014. Rev. Msgr. Gerald R. Belanger, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot at Dublin Cemetery.
