Charles E. Sable

November 27, 1947 — July 6, 2009

Charles E. Sable, also widely known as Cecil B. DeClown, died peacefully on July 6, 2009 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Jaffrey surrounded by family and friends after surviving cancer for over 3 years.

He was born in Gary, Indiana on November 27, 1947 son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Bodnar) Sable. Charlie had faithfully served his country first in the US Navy from 1967 to 1971, and then with the US Air Force from 1974 to 1978.

Charlie enjoyed gardening, close encounters with wildlife and making people laugh. He worked at MPB Corporation in Keene for ten years prior to beginning his entertainment business. He was a clown, storyteller, magician, player of the musical saw and above all, he was a gentleman. He entertained countless friends and fans at fairs and festivals, corporate functions, grand openings, parades, schools, nursing homes, libraries, sporting events, and private parties from Maine to Florida. He was known for his corny jokes and his ability to relate to people of all ages, but he will be remembered most fondly for being generous, thoughtful, loving and was always willing to share his skills and knowledge.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was also preceded in death by his brothers Gene Sable and Kevin Sable.

He is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne Prevett Sable; his daughter, Jessica Sable Haywood; granddaughters Kyla and Zoe Haywood; his step-son, Damon Poor; his sister Barbara Sable; parents-in-law, Harold and Olivia Prevett; brothers-in-law Harold Prevett, Jr. and Norman Prevett.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sustainability Project, P.O. Box 311, Emerson Brook Road, Gilsum, NH 03448

There will be a celebration honoring the life of Charlie Sable at the Fitzwilliam VFW Hall on Route 12 in Fitzwilliam on Friday, July 10 from 6:00 9:00 PM. Attendees are welcome to bring potluck dishes, photos, stories and songs.
