Clara M. Hixson

Clara Hixson, 104, formerly of Walpole, MA and Hancock, NH, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Pheasantwood Healthcare Center in Peterborough after a period of failing health.

Mrs. Hixson was born on November 30, 1909 in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of the late Freeman and Effie (Joudrey) Walton. She grew up in Canada and had attended schools there as well. She married Edwin L. Hixson on September 4, 1928 in East Walpole, MA and together they began their family and built their home in Walpole.

Mrs. Hixson loved her family and enjoyed doting on her children and grandchildren, often playing games and music with them. She also liked sewing and knitting, and lovingly made gifts for four new generations of Hixson’s. She held the Boston Post Cane for the town of Hancock.

Mrs. Hixson was predeceased by her husband on October 19, 1996 after 68 years of marriage, and by her granddaughter, Cynthia L. Hixson on May 23, 1997. Her siblings, Everett Walton, Clifford Walton, Wilbert Walton, Roy Walton, Grace Russell, and Annie Hill, also died earlier

She is survived by her daughter, Marion J. Driscoll of Florida; her 2 sons, Arthur L. Hixson of Hancock, NH and Donald E. Hixson of Buzzards Bay, MA; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

At Mrs. Hixson’s request, there will be no calling hours or services at this time.
A graveside service will be held later at the family lot in Knollwood Cemetery in Canton, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hixson’s name to the Animal Shelter of one’s choice.
