David 'Bun' O'Neil

David Bun ONeil, 82, of Gilmore Court, Jaffrey died Tuesday June 7, 2011 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a period of failing health. He was born December 9, 1928 in Rindge and was raised in Jaffrey by Felix and Maude (Canfield) ONeil. He was a 1948 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and has been a life long resident of this community. Immediately following high school he joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Midway stationed in Brunswick, Maine until 1952. He was a member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion of Jaffrey. Bun was a retired employee of W.W. Cross Co in Jaffrey where he had worked as a printer. Upon retiring he worked as a school crossing guard for more than fifteen years. Bun was involved in Scouting for more than thirty five years and had held various positions on both District and Council levels. He was Scoutmaster for Troop 33 in Jaffrey, Troop 308 in Rindge and Troop 349 in Keene. He was instrumental in the formation of the Charters for both Cub ScoutPack 33 andPack 308. He had earned his Wood Badge and was a recipient of scoutings highest honor, the Silver Beaver award. He was an active member of the United Church of Jaffrey and had served the church as a Deacon for many years, and several pastors. He was a member of the former Couples Club at the Church. He also played tenor Sax with the former Jaffrey Hobo Band. Survivors include his wife of sixty years Estelle (Ehnstrom) ONeil of Jaffrey; two daughters Peggy Lambert of Jaffrey and Karen Arceci of Hubel, MI; three sons Michael D. ONeil and Timothy J. ONeil both of Jaffrey, John C. ONeil of Greenville NH; fifteen grandchildren Patrick ONeil, Nikki ONeil, Matthew Lambert, Charmaine Peard, Carrie ONeil, Meghan ONeil, Amalia ONeil, Gina Skipper, Lisa Arceci, Aaron Arceci, Peggy Sorvisto, David Arceci, Christina Arceci, Nena ONeil, Johna ONeil; thirty six great grandchildren; his sister Elizabeth Cary of Worcester, MA; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son Barry H. ONeil on Jan 5, 1979, his brother William Pitt and his sister Helen Steele. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Conant Cemetery, Stratton Road, Jaffrey.
