Dean Joseph Bednar

July 16, 1954 — October 7, 2018

Dean Joseph Bednar, 64, of Richmond, died Sunday evening, October 7, 2018, at his home, after a period of declining health.

He was born on July 16, 1954, in Newark, NJ, to James W. and Lucille M (Charette) Bednar. Raised in NJ, he graduated from Boonton High School, and worked as a master plumber for 20 years. He obtained an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Mt Wachusett Community College, and worked as a Registered Nurse at various Bay State hospital Emergency Rooms.

Throughout his youth, Mr. Bednar was an altar boy, Sea Scout, avid sportsman and fisherman. He enjoyed working on cars with his father, and as an adult, became an accomplished repairman, always concocting methods to solve a myriad of mechanical problems. He loved reading, all things history, and viewing sports. He often helped others at all cost, never missed a day of work through sickness and left his children with a strong work ethic.

On November 22, 1980 he married his wife of 38 years, Katharine ‘Kit’ Quincy Holway at Our Lady of Fatima Chapel in Pequannock, NJ. He is survived by Katharine, of Richmond, and their five children: James of Fitzwilliam, Andrew of Ashuelot, Mary Kate of Swanzey, Samuel of Fitzwilliam and Luke of Richmond; his siblings: Chi Chi Kobilarcik and her husband Barry, Mary Lou Bednar all of Boonton, NJ, and John Higgins of Gig Harbor, WA; 14 grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by both his parents, and his siblings: Buzzy and Jamie Bednar.

Following the 1:00 PM recitation of the holy Rosary, a Requiem High Mass will be offered by Reverend John Earl at 1:30 PM, October 10, 2018, at the St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Richmond Rd, Winchester, NH 03470. Burial will take place at the St. Benedict Center Cemetery, 95 Fay Martin Rd, Richmond, NH 03470, followed by a reception in St. Joseph Hall.
