Dennis R. Fournier

July 17, 1947 — January 4, 2015

New Ipswich, NH – Dennis R. Fournier, 67, of New Ipswich, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Peterborough, NH on July 17, 1947, the son of Raymond L. and Virginia G. (Nutting) Fournier. Dennis was raised in Greenville and graduated from the former Appleton Academy in New Ipswich in the class of 1967. Dennis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army - a Vietnam Era Veteran serving in Germany with the HHB 5th Battalion Artillery Division. He assisted his father with the operation of the Fournier Funeral Home in Greenville during his teenage years. Dennis also served his community on the Greenville Police Department and Fire Department in the 1970’s. He had worked in the former Florence Mills in Greenville as a weaver, at Seppala & Aho in maintenance, and at local grocery and department stores before working and retiring from N.H.B.B. in Peterborough in 1999 when his health became a factor. Dennis was an active member of the LeClaire-Caron-Pelletier Post #13 American Legion and was a 2 time past-commander, once in 1989 and again in 2000. He served and chaired many committees as well as proudly serving in the Honor Guard. Dennis was also a member and past commander of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron #13 in Greenville. Dennis also belonged to the 40 & 8, the Eastwood Club in Fitchburg, Mass., and NH Association of Chiefs of Police. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting and fishing, and serving his community. Dennis is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl (Bourgault) Fournier, of New Ipswich; his daughter, Tami Lafreniere of Nashua, NH; his son, Shawn L. Fournier of Jaffrey; his 2 stepsons, Eric, Jonilionis of New Ipswich, NH, Ryan Jonilionis of Greenville; his 5 granddaughters, Megan LaFreniere of Nashua, and Hannah, Lilly, and Leah Fournier of Jaffrey, Paige Jonilionis and his grandson, Davin Jonilionis of Greenville, NH; his sister Cindy Keary of North Falmouth, Mass, and many aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers, Edmund K. Fournier and Daryl H. Fournier. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Dennis’ Life on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452. A memorial service, celebrated by Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, will take place at 5:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Military Honors following the service. Burial will take place at a later date in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
