DONALD J. SILVA, 73 of Gilmore Court, Jaffrey died peacefully Saturday February 14, 2009 at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
He was born May 17, 1935 in Chelsea MA, son of the late Joseph and Louise (Frost) Silva. He had attended Chelsea schools before entering the United States Marine Corps in 1953.
Mr. Silva has been a resident of Jaffrey since 1985 and had previously lived in Winthrop, MA. He was employed as station manager for Parkway Service Station in Revere, MA.

He was a Life Member of the Jaffrey Memorial VFW Post 5613 and a member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 in Jaffrey. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge #1078 in Winthrop, MA and enjoyed visiting with family and friends as well as building puzzles together.
Mr. Silva is survived by his wife of 52 years JoAnne (Molloy) Silva of Jaffrey; two daughters Theresa Shell of Rindge and Janine Slocum of Pittsfield MA; 3 granddaughters, Brianna and Samantha Shell, and Cheyanne Slocum; a sister Sheila Silva of Derry NH; three brothers Richard Silva of Foxborough MA, Jack Silva of NH Florida, James Silva of Ayersdale, SC, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Monadnock Family Services, 17 Ninety-Third Street, Keene, NH 03431, to support their efforts of purchasing their facility in Jaffrey, or to Hospice at HCS, for patient care needs in the Jaffrey area, PO Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458

Burial will follow in the Massachusetts State Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, MA.

Friends are invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey, NH on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 10:00AM until 12:00Noon.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon in the funeral home. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, Pastor of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate.
