Donald P. Draper

DONALD P. DRAPER, 83, of Gilmore Pond Road in Jaffrey died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a long illness.
 
He was born April 2, 1925 in Canton MA, son of the late Paul and Marjorie (Elms) Draper.
He had attended Proctor Academy.
 
Mr. Draper proudly served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He participated in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and was stationed on Guam.  He served with the 1600th Quartermaster Car Company.
 
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Nation Audubon Society and also an Associate member of the Smithsonian Institution.
 
Mr. Draper has been a resident of Jaffrey since 1995 and had previously lived most of his life in Canton.
He and his family had been summer residents of Jaffrey since the early 1930s
 
Don enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, especially those trips taken to Stowe, Vermont and Nova Scotia.  He enjoyed golf and had played through ill health until last summer.  He enjoyed antique autos and always enjoyed getting together with friends for lunch or just coffee breaks at Walter Pratts shop.
He was a self-taught bird carver and had made many tie slides for string ties.
 
His wife of 58 years Edith (Nolan) Draper died on March 19, 2007.
 
Survivors include his five daughters, Donna Eramo of Canton, MA, Kathleen E. Draper and Marilyn Draper both of Jaffrey, Joyce Riccio of Center Valley, PA and Carol Irving of Randolph, MA; 3 grandchildren, Jamie Palmer, Jennifer Draper and Michael Riccio; a sister Phyllis Frasier of Riverside CA; several nieces nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breathe New Hampshire, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford NH 03110, or to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494.

As per his request, there will be no calling hours.

Graveside committal services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 11:00AM in Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High Street, Canton MA.
