Elaine M. Mercier, 74, of Jaffrey, NH died unexpectedly and peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home at Gilmore Court in Jaffrey. She was born on September 8, 1938 in Marlborough Massachusetts, daughter of Wilbur and Loretta (LaFreniere) Pitman. Elaine graduated from Marlborough (MA) High School and married Robert F. Mercier with whom she had a loving, large family. In 1972, they moved from Stow, MA to Jaffrey. After her children had grown, Elaine returned to school to complete a Bachelor’s degree in social work and psychology from Franklin Pierce College in 1996. While taking classes, she dispatched for the security department at Franklin Pierce, where she worked for over a decade. Elaine was a member of the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes at Saint Patrick Church as well as the Triple D at the United Church in Jaffrey. She was actively involved in her community. She enjoyed weekend afternoons at the movies, senior dinners with friends, and was especially fond of group adventures to Foxwoods. Her most cherished memories were spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elaine was predeceased by both of her parents, her brother Kenneth Pitman, and her husband Robert F. Mercier, who passed away on September 25, 1983. She is survived by her daughters; Cathryn M. Mercier (and husband Curt Priest) of Melrose, MA, Linda M. Dionne (and husband Michael) of Jaffrey, NH, Virginia M. Dechaine (Ginger) of Peterborough, NH, Laura M. Debold of Orange, MA; her sons; Joseph A. Mercier (and wife Lisa) of Goffstown, NH, and John A. Mercier (and wife Vicki) of Jaffrey, NH; her brother Alfred Pitman of Maynard, MA; her sister Mary Medeiros of St. Petersburg, FL, 19 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren and many treasured nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Elaine’s Memory to the American Red Cross, 83 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.

Family and friends are warmly invited to Calling Hours on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street in Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at Conant Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
