Ernest M. Cota, 86, of Jaffrey, died peacefully Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home after a period of failing health.

Ernest was born June 16, 1927 in Greenfield, MA, son of the late Paul and Ester (Palmer) Cota. He spent his youth in Walpole, NH and had attended schools there until enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving through the duration of World War II on the U.S.S. Greggs.

After honorably serving his country, Ernest moved to Jaffrey where he worked for several of the industries in the area. He eventually retired from Troy Mills in 1989.

Ernest was an active family man. He was willing to do anything in order to help any of his family at any time. He enjoyed travelling and wintering in Arizona for many years. He liked hunting, golfing, camping, and more than anything; he enjoyed going to his grandsons baseball, football and basketball games.

He is survived by his wife of more than 54 years, Arline (Gagnon) Cota of Jaffrey; his daughter Jodie Cota of Keene, NH; his son Mark and wife Michelle (Stewart) Cota of Rindge; his grandsons Alex E. Cota and Tyler J. Cota, both of Rindge; his sister Dorothy King of Jaffrey; his 2 nieces, Ann Barter of Falmouth, ME, and Marcia Upton of Medford, MA; his 3 nephews, Todd Wheeler of Bennington, Frank Patalono of Revere, MA and Paul Patalono of Medford, MA, and many cousins and friends.

Ernest was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia Oligli, Margaret Patalono, Shirley Roberts and Ruth Hildreth.

Friends and family are warmly invited to calling hours at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps will conduct a funeral service for Ernest in the chapel at 6:30PM.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held in the family lot at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey at the convenience of the family.
