Evelyn Lavenia Nute

March 3, 1914 — February 7, 2010

EVELYN L. NUTE, 95, formerly of Nelson Circle in Jaffrey died Sunday February 7, 2010 at the River Mead Health Care Center in Peterborough, NH following a period of failing health.

She was born March 3, 1914 in Port Lorne, Nova Scotia Canada, daughter of the late Minard and Goldie (Brown) Brinton.
At some time during her early years, her family moved to Keene, NH.

She was a graduate of the former Keene Normal School and soon began her teaching career in Claremont NH, and then in various schools in the Monadnock area.

On January 1, 1946 Evelyn married Richard R. Nute of Jaffrey and has been a resident of Jaffrey ever since.
At one time she was a substitute teacher at Conant High School, and for many years she was an active member of the Jaffrey Womans Club.

Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with her husband and friends and was a member of several bridge clubs and canasta groups. She liked to cook, do needlework and read.

But Evelyns true love and center of her being was music. She was gifted with a lovely soprano voice and was a soloist and Choir Director for several churches in the area; including the United Church of Jaffrey and Union Congregational Church in Peterborough, where she was Choir and Musical Director for 25 years. In her later years she was the soloist at the Christian Science Reading Room in Peterborough.

Her husband of fifty four years died December 4, 1999.
Survivors include a niece Dorothy (Nute) DeLalio of California; a cousin Karlyne Adey of Nova Scotia; a distant cousin Ron Foster of California and chosen close friends.

Evelyns family warmly invites friends and neighbors to her Committal Service on Thursday June 3 at 12:00 Noon in Woodland Cemetery, North Lincoln, Street in Keene.

There will be no calling hours.

Friends are also invited later that same day to a Memorial Service which will be held at 2:00PM in the Union Congregational Church on Concord Street in Peterborough. Rev. Polly Shamy, pastor, will officiate at both services.
