FREDRIC K. WALKONEN, 73, of Jaffrey Road, Fitzwilliam, died Monday November 17, 2008 at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene following a brief illness.
He was born November 3, 1935 in Gardner MA, son of the late Kauko and Toini (Tuunanen) Walkonen.

He had lived most of his life in Jaffrey, where he was a member of the Conant High School graduating class of 1953. For the past twenty three years he has been a resident of Fitzwilliam.
He was a member of the United States Air Force and was stationed at Presque Isle and Bangor ME.

Freddie was a retired employee of D.D. Bean Sons Co. in Jaffrey. He had also worked at the New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough; drove school bus for Oliver Burgoyne Bus Co. in the Jaffrey- Rindge School District; for many years he was the night watchman at W.W. Cross Co; drove truck for Baird Paving in Jaffrey and had also worked at Wal Mart in Rindge.

He loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of twenty three years Brenda (Stacy) Walkonen of Fitzwilliam; a daughter Deborah E. Dunlap of Antrim, a son Paul F. Walkonen of Jaffrey; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a step sister Lucy Sawyer Humphrey of Fitzwilliam; a step-brother Matthew J. Walkonen of Wardsboro VT; several nieces and nephews. Also his first wife and mother of his children Elaine C. Whitney of Jaffrey.
He was predeceased by his son Robert L. Walkonen on April 12, 1998 and his sister Toini W. Parker on September 12, 1988.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsbury Cancer Center, 590 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.

Burial will follow in Conant Cemetery, Jaffrey.

Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, in Jaffrey on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00PM

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00PM at the funeral home. Rev. Elizabeth Davis of Peterborough will officiate.
