George Holbrook Bolles

George H. Bolles, 78, of Carey Drive in Jaffrey died peacefully Monday January 16, 2012 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack following a courageous battle with cancer. George was born in Keene on March 13, 1933 son of the late Noyes J. and Edith (Brown) Bolles. He was raised by his grandparents in Jaffrey and was a 1951 graduate of Conant High School. He began his college education but left school to serve with the United States Army. He enlisted in 1953 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Following his discharge in 1955 he returned to school and in 1958 graduated from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Physics. He had attended Stony Brook University in New York where he was working towards his Master’s degree. After completing his education, George lived in Huntington Station NY and worked as a nuclear scientist for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Co. in Bethpage Long Island NY. In 1969 he and his family returned to Jaffrey and with his cousin Peter Davis bought the former Birchtoft Lodge on Thorndike Pond which they converted to the Monadnock Recreation Area. He worked as the owner/ recreational director until the property was sold to the State of New Hampshire in 1979. Since then he had been employed with GE where he worked on the MX Missile System until 1982 when he transferred to Sanders Associates in Nashua where he started the company’s Nuclear Division. He then worked for various other industries in the greater Monadnock area. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing. He is survived by his wife Svetlana (Guryevna) Bolles of Jaffrey; five daughters Edith M. LaFon of Springfield, MO., Eva E. Good of Hudson NH, Mellisa Shaw of Milford, Heidi Bolles of Phoenix, AZ and Terri Joshi of Toronto, Canada; his son John Edward Bolles of Jaffrey; nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother John Henry Bolles November 8, 1957 and a son James Theodore Bolles in 1956.

Burial in the family lot in St. Patrick Cemetery Jaffrey will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

A Celebration of George’s life will be held at Trinity Evangelical Church, 700 Dublin Road in Peterborough on Saturday January 21, 2012 at 2:00PM. George’s son-in-law Clay Good, pastor of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Hudson, will officiate.
