George R. Chamberlain

George R. Chamberlain, 89, of Prospect Street, Jaffrey, died peacefully Monday January 3, 2011 at his residence following a long illness.
He was born August 4, 1921 in Jaffrey, son of the late George C. and Hazel (Turner) Chamberlain.
He had attended Jaffrey Schools and has been a life long resident of this community.
He served with the United States Army during World War II from October 1942 to Nov 1945. He was stationed 26 months overseas with service in Africa, Burma, India and China; and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Mr. Chamberlain was employed as a printer at D.D. Bean Sons Co. in Jaffrey for more than twenty five years. He had also worked as a truck driver for Baird Paving Co. in Jaffrey.
Mr. Chamberlain was a self taught carpenter, plumber and electrician. He made two of the houses that he and his family lived in. He also made a lot of the furniture in those houses as well as many nick-knacks. He always had a project.
In his younger years he enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed riding his motor cycle.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Rita (Pelkey) Chamberlain of Jaffrey; his daughter Joyce A. Baird also of Jaffrey; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandson.

Burial in the family lot at Conant Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

At his request, there will be no formal services at this time.
