George W. Dishong

February 22, 1933 — February 8, 2022

George William Dishong, 88, formerly of Jaffrey, passed peacefully on February 8, 2022 at Scott-Farrar Assisted-Living in Peterborough after a brief battle with vascular disease and a broken heart.

Born on February 22, 1933, to Edna Mae (Light) and John William Dishong, he was the second of four children. George grew up on 9 Brick Row in Rexmont, PA where he attended school in Cornwall. At the tender age of 17 he went into the US Navy. After discharge from the Navy, he entered college at Penn State. He worked summers at Bethlehem Steel underground in the iron ore mines to help pay for his college. He met his sweet Eva (it’s been told their courtship involved dancing). George and Eva were married his junior year, August 17,1957. Upon graduation he went to work for the NSA in Bethesda, MD. During this time, he earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Catholic University. They shared their first home at 2 Dell Place in Laurel, MD, where they started their family. In 1963 he bought our home in Jaffrey, the beautiful Dutch colonial where memories were made for the next 55 years. George had started his own business “Man Electronics.” before changing careers and becoming a professor of math at Franklin Pierce College. He was always very involved with the students and enjoyed competing at table tennis (not ping-pong) and spectating at the basketball games. He taught scuba diving in Bermuda to students during January intercession. No one could make a tank of air last like he could. A night out to eat for the family was the FPC cafeteria and the ‘all you can eat’ soft serve was the highlight. After 17 years at FPC he took a sabbatical and entered law school at age 47. He graduated at age 50 with a law degree and worked the next 20+ years as a patent trademark/copyright attorney.

George was a devoted husband, father, and papa. He always said he loved when he walked into the living room and there was no room left for him to sit. He had nicknamed 40 Bryant Road “the party house” that will always be home in his heart. George’s athletic hobbies were skiing, cycling, playing tennis and running. The Dishong family was known as the family who swam to the island at Thorndike Pond. George was the type of nonjudgemental man who could be friends with the garbage collector or the CEO. He was unique in many ways and could be identified as the guy with the shorts and sandals no matter the season.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eva of 64 years. He is survived by his four children, Edward (Melissa), Denise Burleigh, Linda Bonczar (Steve) and John (Melissa). He cherished 11 grandchildren, Ella and Molly Dishong; Aaron, Andrew and Daniel Orsini and Georgia-Raye Moore; Hailey, Kendra & Grant Bonczar; Lauren and Zachary Dishong and her 2 step-grandchildren, Cody and Lucas Johnson. He was fortunate enough to have three great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Claire and Brayden Orsini. He is survived by his sisters Doris Smith and Earla Campbell, and he is predeceased by his brother Lester Dishong
