H. Stanley Wilson

January 3, 1938 — March 14, 2014

H. Stanley Wilson, 76, of Jaffrey, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center after a period of failing health. Stan was born in Haverhill, NH on January 3, 1938, son of the late Henry and Phyllis (Keith) Wilson. He graduated from Bradford Academy in Vermont before attending the New Mode Barber School in Nashua, NH. Stan lived in Piermont, NH before moving to Jaffrey. In December of 1959, Stan opened ‘Stan’s Barber Shop on River Street in Jaffrey and it remained a hub of activity, information, and style until he retired and closed the shop in October 2011 after over 50 years of service to the community of Jaffrey. Stan married his longtime sweetheart, Linda Bagley, on September 9, 1962. Together they raised their family in Jaffrey and became members of the United Church as well as very active members in civic affairs around town. Stan rose through the degrees in Freemasonry while affiliated with Charity Lodge #18 in Jaffrey since 1968. He was a Past Master, Past District Deputy Grand Master, and Past District Deputy Grand Lecturer. He was conferred a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was also an active and noble member of the Valley of Keene Scottish Rite of New Hampshire. Stan was also active in the Lion’s Club in Jaffrey and was Club President twice, as well as having fulfilled several other roles within the organization through the years. Stan was fundamental in starting the Sand for Sidewalks campaign in town, which was later adopted and still operates around the State of New Hampshire. He was one of the few Lions in the State who have received the Melvin Jones Award for his ongoing commitment to the Lions Organization. Years ago, Stan helped bring a successful Cub Scout program to the town of Jaffrey which still thrives today. Stan and his family also owned and operated the Brass Pineapple Restaurant in Winchendon from 1989 to 2002. As active as he was, Stan could still find time to enjoy woodworking and small furniture building, and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and harmless pranks through the years. In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia J. Wilson in 1991. Stan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda B. Wilson of Jaffrey; his 2 sons; Paul Wilson and wife Karen of Worcester, MA, and Scott Wilson of Gardner, MA; 3 grandchildren; his sisters, Carolyn Morich of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Joyce Davis of Newbury, NH.
