Harold E. Gravelle

November 19, 1939 — November 30, 2009

Troy, New Hampshire

Harold E. Gravelle, 77, of Troy, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a brief illness.

He was born in Montague, MA on November 19, 1932, son of the late George and Evelyn (Johnson) Gravel. He attended schools in Royalston and Otter River, MA.

Mr. Gravelle was a wood worker and had worked throughout the Gardner, MA area. He had retired in 1997 from Harrisville Design in Harrisville, NH after working there for over 17 years.

He was an enthusiastic Bingo player and had enjoyed numerous trips to Foxwoods through the years. But he will be most fondly remembered for having a big heart and for always enjoying any time spent with family and friends. He was a kind and thoughtful man who knew what it took to make friends and also knew how to keep them. And once he earned your friendship, you were fair game to his delightful teasing.

Mr. Gravelle was preceded in death by his sister Ruth and his brothers Albert and George. His son James also died earlier.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Blair) Gravelle, whom he had been together with for over 37 years, but only married just 7 short years ago! He is also survived by his five daughters; Arlene Tessier of Athol MA, Pauline Gravelle, Cheryl Blouin, and Brenda Comtois, all of Gardner, MA, and Lisa Gravelle of South Ashburnham, MA; his 3 sons Harold E. Gravelle, Jr of Fitchburg, MA, Jerry Gravelle and William Gravelle both of Gardner, MA; a sister Mary Grant of Winooski, VT; 3 brothers Donald and Richard Gravel, both of Fitzwilliam, NH and Robert Gravel of Rindge, NH; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, Post Office Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452, or to the charity of ones choice.

Mr. Gravelle has requested there be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be held at Saint Patrick Cemetery on Thursday, December 10 at 2:00 PM.
Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate.
