Harold F. Bragg

Harold F. Bragg, 88, of Hinsdale, NH died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

Harold was born on March 6, 1926 in Keene, NH, son of the late Maurice and Laura C. (Duhaime) Bragg. He attended local schools and then enlisted with the U.S. Navy where he served as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class aboard a variety of ships including the U.S.S. Charles S. Sperry, the tank landing ship U.S.S. LST-1074, the tank landing ship U.S.S. LST-269 and the tank landing ship U.S.S. LST-569. Mr. Bragg served courageously in the Asiatic Pacific Arena during World War II in the Philippines and the Vietnam area.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harold spent most of his working life in car sales, primarily selling Volkswagen’s and Mazda’s at Patriot Motors in Keene, NH. He had also worked briefly at Keene Industrial Paper Company. After retiring, Harold enjoyed sharing long walks with his dogs and whittling. His other hobbies included cribbage, woodworking, gardening, animals and playing the piano by ear.

Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bragg Sr., his sister, Beverly Hall, and his sister-in-law, Edwina Bragg.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kathleen Bragg of Hinsdale and his four daughters; Laurie Buckley and her husband Phil of Port Orange, FL, Holly Chamberlin and her husband David of Swanzey, NH, Kimberley Chagnon and her husband William of Greenfield, MA, and Jody Elsesser and her husband Glenn of Alstead, NH; and his son, Mark Bragg and his wife Linda of Marlow, NH. He will also be missed by his 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

There will be no calling hours. Friends and family are warmly invited to Celebrate Harold’s Life on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Winchester VFW Post #3968 Hall, 5 South Main Street, (Rte. 10) in Winchester, NH 03470 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Mr. Bragg will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Conant Cemetery in Jaffrey, NH in the spring.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Harold’s memory to the Monadnock Region Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH 03446.
