John D. Chute

November 20, 1926 — June 15, 2014

John D. Chute, 87, of Greenfield, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a period of failing health.

Mr. Chute was born on November 20, 1926 in Hancock, son of the late William and Rose (Lemire) Chute. He grew up in Hancock and had attended local schools. Mr. Chute moved to Greenfield in 1944 where he married Anna Swinington and together they owned and operated the Town and Country store in Greenfield and were always a fixture in town.

Mr. Chute had also worked as the Road Agent in Greenfield as well as at Honeywell in Peterborough. He retired from New Hampshire Ball Bearing where he had worked as a supervisor. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Greenfield Historical Society as well as the Crotched Mountain Ridge Runners Snow-Mobile Club in Greenfield and Pleasant Pond Snow-Mobile Club in Francestown.

Mr. Chute was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Swinington) Chute on January 11, 2008, as well as by his 3 sisters, Ruby, Nola and Pearl, and by his brother Bill.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, especially Joanne and Tom Fairfield of Greenfield, with whom he had been living.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours which will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202 South) in Jaffrey.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel immediately following calling hours on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Rev. Daniel F. Osgood, Pastor of the Greenfield Congregational Covenant Church will officiate.

Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2014 in the family lot at Greenvale Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Chute’s name to the Animal Shelter of one’s choice.
