John Stephen Cournoyer

John Stephen Cournoyer departed this world on Saturday, November 19 in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

He was born February 10, 1956 in Clearwater, Florida. He studied Computer Engineering at the University of Central Florida and studied further at Duke University to obtain an MBA. He worked for several companies like Texas Instruments and Fujitsu in positions of technical expertise with high level government security clearance. He moved to the Chapel Hill area in 1984 and created several technical enterprises and spent the past ten years as a consultant for internet providers with clients such as Google and Verizon. His technical abilities became legendary with his colleagues. Beyond his technical acumen, his colleagues sought out his enjoyable camaraderie, always filled with humor and caring advice.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Eversole Cournoyer and father, Frederick Cournoyer. He is survived by his beloved partner, Nathalie Worthington; sister, Sharon Cournoyer; brothers James, Michael, William, Fred, and Kevin Cournoyer; daughter Sarah Cournoyer and her son Charles and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

John was ever curious about life, from building a geodesic dome in the family’s backyard as a child to exploring the hills of Chatham County with his great-nieces and nephews. John’s generosity, humor, and humility will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
