HARLAN E. RUSTY KARR, JR., 71, of Shady Lane in Hancock died peacefully Saturday October 9, 2010 at his residence.

He was born August 14, 1939 in Nashua NH, son of the late Dr. Harlan E. and Marion (Cannon) Karr.

He was a 1957 graduate of Vermont Academy in Saxons River VT, and had attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham for three years.

Rusty was an insurance broker and worked for several insurance agencies in the Monadnock area. He retired this spring as President of the Masiello Agency in Peterborough.

Rusty always loved outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and skiing. He was an avid boater. He enjoyed classical music. He was an active member of NHARA (New Hampshire Alpine Racing Association) and a referee for the North American Ski Association. He was also a member of the Peterborough Fly Fishing Club; he had coached Peterborough Touch Football teams, was a former member of the Peterborough Planning Board, a member of the Amoskeag Veterans, a member of the Peterborough Lions Club, as well as a Rotarian, a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by his son Christopher C. Karr of Killington VT; two daughters Whitney Karr-Wegenst of Castalia, NC and Gretchen Kenney of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren, Macey Cross of Castalia, NC, Nathan, Taylor, and Ethan Cross of Hancock, Jack Karr Slayton of West Tisbury,MA, Justin and Savannah Kenney of Anchorage,AK; a brother James P. Karr of Lancaster NY; a nephew Jason Karr; a niece Jennifer Waterman. He is also survived by Donna L. Davis, his life partner for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at HCS, Post Office Box 496, Peterborough NH 03458.

At his request, there will be no calling hours.

Private committal services will be held at the convenience of Rustys family.
