Judith L. Tieger

October 4, 1940 — November 6, 2008

Judith L. Judy Tieger passed away peacefully at her home in Jaffrey on November 6, 2008, in the company of family and friends.
Born in Rindge on October 4, 1940 to the late Russell R. and Dorothy (Coffin) Raymond, she succumbed to the rare and insidious Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease. Judy had a unique inner strength developed from the time she was a young girl that manifested itself in the way she dealt with life and it was her most admirable trait, said her husband of 38 years, Marc. When she converted to Judaism prior to our marriage in 1970, she carried that trait into her embrace of her new religion and came to epitomize that quiet leadership role that is described in Proverbs, 31. She was educated in the Rindge and Jaffrey schools where she was an excellent student and as an adult earned her GED. In 1986 she graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College with a GPA of 3.96 and was offered a prestigious Ada Comstock Scholarship by Smith College in Northampton, MA. However, she declined it and embarked upon a 10 year career in the finance department at Applewild School in Fitchburg, MA. That was followed by employment in the food service industry for several years, most notably as part of the Twelve Pine family working for Danny and the late Joanie Thiebault. After Twelve Pine changed hands she became the manager of Self-Storage of Jaffrey and Self Storage of Peterborough for her dear friends Don and Cyndy Burgess, a position she held until the time of her death.

Among her other accomplishments were the co-founding of Tieger Realty Co. with her husband in 1972, volunteering at Cheshire Medical Center, working as a hospice volunteer, and delivering Meals On Wheels. Judy was a Charter Member and former secretary of the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, the chair of its Sunshine Committee, a member of Shelter From The Storm, a member of Congregation Ahavas Achim in Keene, N.H. and a member of Hadassah Womens Organization and Sisterhood of Congregation Agudat Achim in Leominster, MA, which she has attended for many years. She enjoyed life and was truly grateful for each day; she lived in the moment. She was a devoted friend to many, many people and she was the glue that held her large and diverse family together. Two of her favorite annual events were the legendary celebration of Thanksgiving with its 20-30 plus people and the Mothers Day picnic at Odiorne State Park in Rye, N.H.
In addition to her devoted husband Marc, of Jaffrey, she is survived by her sisters, Joan DeGrandpre of Rindge and Jean Raymond of Jaffrey; her son Alan Raymond, of Gray, Maine; her son Donald W. Cramb Jr, of Jaffrey; her daughter Julie Pillsbury, of Jaffrey; her daughter Sandra Rathburn, of Jaffrey; and her son Aaron of Cambridge, MA. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, five nephews and one niece, 5 grandnephews and 1 grandniece.

Donations in Judys memory may be made to the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 2, Jaffrey; Shelter From The Storm, PO Box 257, Jaffrey; Hospice at HCS, 312 Marlborough Street, Keene, N.H. 03431 or Congregation Agudat Achim.
