Justin J. Blauner, living at Rivermead in Peterborough, New Hampshire, long-time resident of Rydal, Pennsylvania, who retired to Grantham, New Hampshire, died peacefully on May 26, 2009 after an extended illness.

Born in New York City on January 14, 1922 to Sidney and Lillian (Avrutine) Blauner, Justin attended New York University and Harvard Business School before serving during World War II as an Army captain in the European theater. He received a bronze star for his work in statistical control.

His business career was in retail, including the Blauners stores in Philadelphia and Country Casuals in Cheltenham, PA.

Justin is most remembered as the best father on the block with legendary Sunday afternoon excursions, often including all the neighborhood children. In an era before involved fathers, he set the standard.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia (Weiser) Blauner, his daughter Margaret Ann (Peg) Metzger and her husband Louis Metzger of Wellesley, MA, his daughter Jeanne Alison Blauner of Lancaster, MA, and his daughter Patricia Gail Blauner and her husband, Peter Blier, of Amherst, MA. He leaves 5 grandchildren: Michael Metzger, Benjamin Blier, Samuel Metzger, Alison Blauner, and Noah Blier. He is also survived by his brother Allan Blauner, of Easton, CT.

Memorial services at Rivermead in Peterborough, NH will be held on Sunday, June 14 at 3:30 PM. Memorial services at the home of Patricia Blauner and Peter Blier in Amherst MA will be held on Sunday, June 28 at 12:30 PM.
