Kenneth S. Selmer

September 23, 1938 — October 10, 2014

Kenneth S. Selmer, 76, of Jaffrey died Friday, October 10, 2014 peacefully at home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in West Roxbury, Mass on September 23, 1938, son of the late Henry and Bertha (Beals) Selmer.
Mr. Selmer was a United States Army veteran, honorably discharged on May 31, 1962.
He has been a Jaffrey, resident since 1979 and previously resided in East Bridgewater, MA.

Ken began a long career in the lumber business in the early 1960’s. His first employer was Cersosimo Lumber in Brattleboro VT. Since then Ken has worked for several lumber mills throughout the North East. After retiring from Henniker Hardwood and Pallet in 2006, he finished his career in Greenfield NH at New England Forest Products as a part-time saw filer and consultant.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish.

Ken was a charter member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont as well as Advent Lutheran Church in Rindge where he was extremely active in all facets of church life.


Survivors include his 3 sons, Stephen Selmer and his wife Angela of Jaffrey, Timothy Selmer and his wife Christine of Hancock, NH, and Eric Selmer and his wife Sherry of West Chesterfield, NH; 6 grandchildren, Gerene and her husband Eric Ellis of Bedford, NH, Joseph Selmer of Portsmouth NH, Alyssa Douglas and her husband Craig of York ME., Laura Selmer of Keene NH, Amy Selmer of Lebanon and David Selmer of Hancock ; four great grandchildren Madison, Jack, Isaac and Lila; two brothers Wesley Selmer and wife Roma of Leesburg, Fl., Paul Selmer and wife Shannon of Jamaica VT.; three sisters Maggie McPherson of Leesburg FL., Edith Schneider and husband Dave of East Peoria, Ill., Carol White and husband Matthew of Westminster VT.; many nieces, nephews, cousins close friends.
He will also be missed by his constant companion “Shadow”.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Colleen (Hakulin) Selmer on May 29, 2009, and a brother Henry Selmer.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Wednesday October 15, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday October 16,2014 at 11:30 AM in the Advent Lutheran Church, 554 Route 202 in Rindge, NH. Rev. Robert Lindberg, Pastor of Advent Lutheran Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Massachusetts State Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. Massachusetts

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kenneth’s memory to the Advent Lutheran Church, Post Office Box 153, Rindge, NH 03461.
