L. Elizabeth Doane

L. Elizabeth Doane, 97, died February 9, 2015 at the Applewood Center Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, NH following a period of failing health.

Mrs. Doane was born in Jaffrey, NH on May 10, 1917, a daughter of the late Charles and Rosanna (Desrosiers) Deschenes. She was born and raised in the Monadnock region, graduating from Conant High School with the class of 1935. “Lib” married Carl Chandler Doane on April 6, 1940 in Jaffrey, NH. Following their marriage they lived in Peterborough, Jaffrey and Bedford before finally settling back in Jaffrey.

“Lib” worked for many years at the Jaffrey Center Post Office and was also a dedicated homemaker.
Mrs. Doane had many great hobbies which kept her active; she was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking and baking, was an avid bird watcher, photographer, and loved reading and spending time tending her beautiful gardens.
Following the death of Carl on July 1, 1987, she moved to Keene where she has lived until moving to Applewood Center this past fall.

Mrs. Doane is survived by her son Lawrence and his wife Ruth Doane of Brattleboro, VT and daughter-in-law Vivien Doane of Suncook, NH; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces’ nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her three sisters, Irene Pratt, Annette LaPage and Marguerite Eames; her husband, Carl C. Doane and her son, Richard C. Doane, September 26, 2014.

A visiting hour will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February, 21, 2015 in the chapel of the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH.

Immediately following the calling hour, a funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate.

Spring burial will be in the family lot at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.
