Leona L. O'Brien

Leona L. O’Brien, 97, of Jaffrey died peacefully on September 21, 2016 at the Pheasantwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peterborough after a lengthy period of declining health.

She was born on November 13, 1918 in East Jaffrey, NH, the daughter of Alfred J. and Marie (Joncas) Letourneau. She was a 1938 graduate of Conant High School.

Leona had worked locally at New Hampshire Ball Bearing, Honeywell and Brookstone before retiring in 1986.

She loved to dance and enjoyed travelling, especially to Florida for over 22 years.

Leona married Joseph P. O’Brien on September 27, 1941. He predeceased her on July 29, 1976. Her brother Homer Letourneau, and her sister, Evelyn Christian, also died earlier.

She is survived by her 3 children and their families; her daughter Phyllis Roy of Jaffrey, NH; her 2 sons, Leonard A. O’Brien of The Villages, Florida and Kevin P. O’Brien of Portsmouth, NH; 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
