Lorna M. Staelens, formerly of Peterborough died Thursday July 30, 2009 at Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Jaffrey, NH

She was born November 12, 1914 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Vernon and Martha (Creamer) Ward. She and her family immigrated to the United States at age 14 to Milton, Massachusetts and was a 1932 graduate of Milton High School. She also had graduated from Hitchcock Secretarial School in Boston.

Mrs. Staelens has resided in Peterborough since 1994. She previously had lived in Squantum, Massachusetts, Hollis, New Hampshire, Newburyport, Massachusetts and Brooksville, Florida.

She was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Peterborough, where she was active with the Womens Fellowship at the Church. She enjoyed playing Bridge with the Monday Afternoon Seniors Group at the Methodist Church in Peterborough.

Her first husband, Kenneth E. Chaddock, died in 1971 and her second husband, Frank Staelens, died in 1994.

She is survived by her daughter Judith C. Fernald of Peterborough and four grandchildren, Stephen W. Fernald and his wife Beth Wojnar Fernald of Austin, Texas; Mark D. Fernald and his wife Beth Rushford Fernald of Sharon, New Hampshire; Russell A. Fernald of Coperas Cove, Texas and Jeffrey W. Fernald and his wife Patricia Montgomery Fernald of Farmington, New Hampshire; and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Marion W. Sneider of Whitefield, New Hampshire and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord Street, Peterborough NH 03458 or to the charity of ones choice.

Burial, at the convenience of the family, will be in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery, Peterborough.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held later in the summer, time and place to be announced.
