Madeleine R. Nolan

Madeleine R. Nolan 98 died peacefully Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Summerhill Assisted Living Center in Peterborough.

Mrs. Nolan was born November 29, 1915 in Winchendon, MA, daughter of the late Odilon and Adelaide (Gagne) Morin. She was a graduate of Winchendon High School. Madeleine married Francis E. Nolan in 1945 and together they moved to Peterborough in 1946.

Madeleine worked as the head secretary in the Superintendent’s office of SAU 47 for over 30 years where she was affectionately known as ‘The Boss’. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Nolan had previously worked as a secretary at Varney Mills in Peterborough until it closed.
She was a past-president of the New Hampshire Association of Educational Secretaries.

Madeleine had taken painting lessons at Sharon Arts Center and became an accomplished artist specializing in Oil Painting. She also loved antique hunting focusing on antique dishes.
In addition to her parents, Madeleine was preceded in death by her husband Francis Nolan on February 28, 1998.

Francis and Madeleine were both only children and had no children of their own. She is survived by her many loving cousins and close friends.

At Madeleine’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at her family lot in Calvary Cemetery on Glen Allen Street in Winchendon on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Jaffrey will officiate.
