Madeline Eleanor Vanni

MADELINE ELEANOR VANNI, 89 of Pheasant Road, Peterborough, formerly of Jaffrey, died peacefully December 20, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare - Pheasantwood.

She was born February 26, 1919 in Hanover MA, daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (Wallace) McCue.
When she was three days old , both her parents died of the influenza, and she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Michael and Catherine Wallace of Peterborough.


She grew up at MacDowell Colony where her Papa was foreman. She would often share her memories of delivering lunches to the artists and writers in their studios or being a tour guide at the Colony during her high school years. She was a 1937 graduate of the former Peterborough High School.

She had worked at the American Guernsey Cattle Club in Peterborough and also at the former Peterborough Telephone company. She worked at Belletete's Grocery Store in Jaffrey during the 1960s and at Millipore during the mid-seventies. For several years she and her husband lived in Concord NH and while there she worked at United Life Insurance Co.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey, and was a member of the former St. Annes Society of the parish. She loved helping people, visiting friends and relatives, or volunteering for various church functions. Many Saturdays were spent making sandwiches for the Church Bingo Night!

She was an accomplished artist and her favorite subject to paint was Mt. Monadnock. Many of her paintings hang on the walls in her childrens homes. She climbed Mt. Monadnock almost every summer. Her last climb was at the age of seventy.

She was a loving and caring grandmother and always wanted to know all about her grandchildrens activities.

In April 1943 she married Romolo J. Vanni,Jr., he died March 19, 2003.

Survivors include her two daughters Brenda Case and her husband, Billof Kennebunkport, ME and Lyn Lambert and her husband Rickof Jaffrey; her son Steve J. Vanni of Auburn NH; her six grandchildren Ryan Case of Montpelier, VT, Darren Case of Portland ME, Peter Lambert of Jaffrey, Anne Maher of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Lauren and Katheryn Vanni both of Auburn NH.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Jocelyn Vanni.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church Out Reach Program, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.

Spring burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.

As per her request, there will be no calling hours

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 3, 2009 at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, Pastor, will officiate.
