Margaret T Baker

December 1, 1925 — June 22, 2018

Margaret Therese Baker, 92, of Peterborough, formerly of Rindge and Keene, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, June 22, 2018, in the comfort of her home, after a brief decline in health.

She was born in Framingham, MA, on December 1, 1925, the daughter of James Dewey and Helena Barbara (Devitt) Geoghegan. She graduated from Framingham High School with the Class of 1943, and from Framingham State College with a BA in Education. After graduation she worked in and travelled around Europe for a few years.

On June 21, 1958, she married Richard Albert Baker, in a ceremony in Framingham, MA. They just celebrated their 60th wedding Anniversary before her passing.

She taught Home Economics in both the Middle and High School levels in Gardner, Spencer, and Framingham, MA. She also worked for the Dairy Council in Worcester, MA.

She was a faithful Catholic and an avid reader, particularly of Catholic readings; she enjoyed sewing and weaving, and making crabapple and grape jelly for the family. She also volunteered at the Well Child Clinic. When the summer months came, she would spend time with her family at their summer cottage on Lake Winnekeag in Ashburnham, MA.

She is survived by her husband, of 60 years: Richard A. Baker of Peterborough; her children: Richard A Baker, Jr. and his wife Leisa Mingo of W. Newbury, MA, John Baker and his wife Betsy of W. Boylston, MA, Margaret Aldrich and her husband John of Holliston, MA, Bill Baker and his girlfriend Janice Edson of Dublin, NH, Tom Baker and his wife Janice of Auburn, NH, Mary Westcott and her husband Kevin of Swanzey, NH, and Henry Baker and his wife Julie of Newton, MA; twenty grandchildren; her sisters: Jane Cosman and her husband Henry of Sherborn, MA and Rose Geoghegan of Natick, MA; her brothers: Lawrence Geoghegan and Tom Geoghegan and his wife Linda of Framingham, MA; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by James, her 2nd son, who passed away shortly after birth; and her sister Mary O’Rourke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 87 Main St, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps will officiate. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Burial will take place after the service in the family plot at the New Cemetery, 121 Main St., Ashburnham, MA 01430.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in Margaret’s name, to the St. Benedict Center, PO Box 627, Winchester, NH 03470. Please put “School Fund” on the Memo Line.
