Mary C. E. Hamilton

Mary C. E. Hamilton, 90, of River Street, Jaffrey died Saturday November 13, 2010 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was born July 6, 1920 in Trollhattan, Sweden daughter of the late Axel H. and Anna (Johansson) Hamilton. She came to the United States in 1925 where she attended the 12 grades of the public school in Jaffrey, graduating from Conant High School in 1938.

She graduated from Keene Teachers College with a Bachelors degree in Education in 1944.

Miss Hamilton taught her first year in Greenville and her second year in Peterborough; and for the next 35 years she taught at the Jaffrey Grade School, with no days lost because of sick leave.

She loved to travel and returned nine times to where she was born.

She was a member of the Congregational Church in Jaffrey; an Auxiliary member of the John Humiston Post #11, American Legion in Jaffrey and was a member of the Keene Chapter of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers.

Family members include her two brothers Charles H. Hamilton and wife Sylvia and Arthur H. Hamilton and wife Cynthia, all of Jaffrey; two nieces Cynthia Rouvalis of Concord and Alyssa Shooshan of Bedford; a nephew Erik G. Hamilton of Winchester MA; several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Erik H. Hamilton in 1945 and John H. Hamilton in 2002.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary C. E. Hamilton and Erik Harry Hamilton Scholarship Fund at Keene State College, 229 Main Street, Keene New Hampshire 03435-0001.

Private committal services at the family lot in Conant Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

As per her request, there will be no calling hours.
