Mary Ciarlone Butler, 87, of Poplar Court, Jaffrey, died peacefully Tuesday April 6, 2010 at her residence.
She was born April 14, 1922 in Roccasicura, Provineia Isernia, Italy daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (DiBenedetto) Ciarlone.
She came to America on February 11, 1930 at the age of seven. She was raised and received her education in Fitchburg MA; she was a 1942 graduate of Fitchburg High School. She moved to Jaffrey in October of 1945 and has been a resident of this community ever since.
Mrs. Butler worked as a certified nurses aide at the Friendship Manor in New Ipswich for ten years; two years at the former Monadnock Christian Nursing Home in Jaffrey and retired in 1984 from Teleflex.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey and was a member of the church choir for many years. She was a member of the former Ste. Anne Society of St. Patrick parish. Mrs. Butler directed and arranged the childrens Christmas pageant at St. Patrick School during the 1960s. She also was also a member of the Jaffrey Community League, and she was an organizer of the Jaffrey Jubilee parades in the 60s.

Mary was an accomplished Classical pianist and used this gift to brighten and cheer up family and friends who were sick and shut-in. Recently as she was no longer able to go out herself, she would call folks, especially on birthdays, leave her portable phone on the piano as she played and sang Happy Birthday to them.

Survivors include her three children Anna Jo Geraci, Donald J. Butler Jr. and Wayne C. Butler all of Jaffrey; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two younger sisters Josephine Papia and Adelena Ferrara.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Church, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.

Family and friends are warmly invited to call on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev Wilfred H. Deschamps, pastor, will officiate.
