Mary L. Schweitzer

Mary Louise Schweitzer, 73, of Concord Street in Peterborough, died peacefully on Tuesday March 22, 2011 at her sons home in Dunbarton after a long period of failing health.

She was born on January 6, 1938, in East Boston, MA, daughter of the late Martin and Laila (Matson) Gillespie, Sr. She was a graduate of the East Boston High School and had attended Denver University where she received a Masters Degree in Judaic Studies.

Mrs. Schweitzer was a very patriotic person. She joined the United States Marines and served her country with honor.

Mrs. Schweitzer had been a social worker and spiritual care coordinator at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton for over 17 years. She had also served on as a school board member for the CONVAL School District. She volunteered as the paymaster for, and was a Life Member of the Capt. Paul L.Gromley Detachment of the Marine Corps League in Hudson, NH and enjoyed helping at Monadnock Worksource in Peterborough.

Mrs. Schweitzer was an avid coin collector, and always held her family as her most important interest

Mrs. Schweitzers brother, Martin Gillespie, Jr. and her sister Laila Gillespie both died earlier.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen A Nary of Concord, NH, Mary E. Leonard of Croton Falls, NY, and Ann Marie M. Wilson of Bennington, NH; her two sons, Lawrence J. Schweitzer, Jr. of Peterborough, NH and Robert M. Schweitzer of Dunbarton, NH; her five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.


Family and friends are warmly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Concordia Lutheran Church, 211 North Main Street, Concord, NH 03301. Pastor Jonathan Hopkins will officiate at the service. Burial will be at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to make memorial contributions in Mrs. Schweitzers name to the NH Veterans Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 626, Concord, NH 03302-0626, or to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276
