Mary M. Cournoyer

Jaffrey, New Hampshire Mary M. Cournoyer, 93 of Union Street, Jaffrey was surrounded by the love of her family when she died peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center where she had resided for the last year. Mary was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on July 20, 1917, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Hess) Ryan. She was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters who have all predeceased her. Mary attended St. Patricks School in Janesville, WI, and worked at Parker Pen Co. until she married in 1942. She was a military wife and mother traveling all over the world until finally settling in Jaffrey, NH in 1956. Mary and her husband purchased the drug store business of Duncan the Druggist on Main Street, Jaffrey, and together they conducted the business, Cournoyer's Cut Rate, forover ten years. Mary also worked at the original Monadnock Bank and New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough. They also operated the Jaffrey Center Post Office in the late '70's. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey. Her hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, reading and doing crafts. Mrs. Cournoyer was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred "Joe" W. Cournoyer on May 9, 2000. Mary was the beloved mother of Marie E. Vonk of Tempe, Arizona; Joseph W. Cournoyer and his wife Peggy of Temple, NH and Philip J. Cournoyer and his wife Pat of Jaffrey; eight grandchildren, Scott, Jeff, Dan, Sarah, Jill, Stacy, Stephanie and Johnny; Five great grandchildren, Kevin C., Morgan, Kevin J., Ashleigh, and Emmett; many nieces and nephews including Priscilla and David Johnson of Winchendon, MA, and countless other relatives in Wisconsin and Illinois. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Good Shepherd Healthcare Center, 20 Plantation Drive, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey. A calling hour will be Friday, September 17, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey. Catholic Funeral Rites will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 AM in the chapel at the funeral home. Rev.
