Nellie A. Crossley, 90, of Dublin, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully amongst her family Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH after a brief illness

She was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on November 27, 1918, daughter of the late George and Sarah (Gavin) Smith. She attended local schools in Andover and graduated from Suffolk University in Boston with a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism.

Nellie had worked for the Andover Public Library before moving to Dublin where she invested herself heavily in the community. She worked at the Dublin Consolidated School as the hot lunch director and at the Dublin School as the Bursar before becoming the Treasurer for the Town of Dublin for many years. After retiring, Nellie enjoyed helping out at Vanderbilts Greenhouse.

Nellie further continued her active community involvement in the local Grange. She was also a School Board member and a trustee of the Dublin Public Library, as well as a member of the Friends of the Dublin Public Library. She helped with the Cheshire County Extension, and had been a leader in the 4-H Club in her younger years. Nellie was on the founding committee for the Dublin Advocate Newsletter and was a Eucharistic Minister and communicant of St. Deniss Catholic Church in Harrisville, NH.

In addition to her devotion to the town of Dublin, Nellie was very passionate about her religious faith, her family and friends, and agriculture both farming and gardening. She will also be fondly remembered for her wonderful cooking and quilting.

Nellie had been married to Edmund Crossley for over 58 years. He died May 29, 1998.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janice A. Loring of Dublin, NH, and Mary L. Korpi and her husband Stephan,of Saco, ME; her 5 Grandchildren: Burlen Loring of Los Angeles County, CA, Anda Lucia of Cambridge, MA, Kirt Loring of Keene, NH, Meredith Loring of San Francisco, CA, and Katie Korpi of South Portland, ME, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dublin Public Library, 1114 Main Street, Dublin, NH 03444, or to New Hampshire Catholic Charities, PO Box 686, Manchester, NH 03105-0686

Burial will take place at St. Augustine Cemetery in Andover, Massachusetts at approximately 3:00 PM.

There will be no visiting hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Fr. James Walsh will officiate.
