Norman "Charlie" Bosse

March 18, 1938 — July 14, 2008

Norman Charlie Bosse, 70, of Libby Court, Jaffrey died Monday July 14, 2008 at the Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital in Gardner MA following a period of failing health.


He was born March 18, 1938 in Corinth, Maine son of the late Norman W. and Marion (Bickmore) Bosse.


Charlie was a 1956 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was an eighteen-year member of the 210th Engineer Detachment of the NH National Guard in Peterborough. He retired as Staff Sergeant.


He was a member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 of Jaffrey and had served on the Executive Board of the Post. For many years he was actively involved with the local honor guard at military funerals.


For most of his life, he worked as a carpenter for various contractors in the Monadnock area. He retired from the maintenance department at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge.


Charlie was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish in Jaffrey, where he served as an usher for many years.  He had worked at the former St. Patrick weekly bingo games during the 1970s and had served on the St. Patrick School Board as well as the Parish Council.

He was a member of Our Lady of Monadnock Knights of Columbus Council #8544, and was Past Faithful Navigator of Knights of Columbus Assembly #2129. He had also served as Color Corps Commander for several years.


He was a thirty-one year member of the Jaffrey VFW Memorial Ambulance Service, retiring in 1992.  He was instrumental in establishing various training programs for first responders.


Charlie played softball for the D.D. Bean Eagles for many years. He also played the drums and sang in local Country and Western bands including the Country Ramblers and the Off Beats.


He is survived by his wife of 45 years Danielle (Cote) Bosse of Jaffrey; two daughters Marta Ann Hebert and her husband Bryan of Antrim, Kristen Lee Basso and her husband Christopher of Hudson; a son Mark Bosse and his long time companion Jane Tracey of Jaffrey; three grandchildren Bryan Hebert II and Elisabeth Ann Hebert both of Antrim and Alyssa Marie Basso of Hudson; a sister Sharon Carpenter of Vero Beach FL; two brothers Richard L. Bosse also of Vero Beach FL and Gary C. Bosse of Wilton; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, a granddaughter Angela Marie Hebert predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jaffrey Fire Department, Benevolent Fund, c/o Chief David Chamberlain, 10 Goodnow Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.

Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday July 22, 2008 at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street in Jaffrey from 5:00 to 8:00PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday July 23, 2008 at 10:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor will officiate.
