Contoocook, NH Pauline J. Oesterlin, 81, of Park Avenue, in Contoocook, died Friday January 7, 2011 at the Concord Hospital in Concord, NH after a brief illness. Pauline was born on January 8, 1929 in New London, NH, daughter of the late Earl H. and Lucy (Hazen) Johnson. She was a 1947 graduate of Hopkinton High School and had taken additional courses in bookkeeping. She had lived in Jaffrey for twenty years before moving to Epsom, and Pittsfield, before making Contoocook her home since 1990. Pauline was a licensed Public Accountant, and had worked with her husband Elmer A Oesterlin, a CPA in Jaffrey. Following his death, she operated her own public accounting office for many years. Pauline was a bookkeeper and accountant for Silver Ranch Inc in Jaffrey for ten years. During that time she was also a bookkeeper at Ray Moore Motors and for the Jaffrey Automatic Stove Company. She served the Town of Jaffrey as Trustee of the Trust Funds for many years and was the Secretary of the New Hampshire Public Accountant Association. After moving to Contoocook, Pauline worked for several auto dealers in the Hopkinton area. She enjoyed horse back riding and owned her own horse Popcorn, but her real passion and advocacy was genealogy. Pauline became the Treasurer of both the New Hampshire Society of Genealogists and the Merrimack Valley Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogy. She also enjoyed belonging to both the Mercy Hathaway White Chapter of the DAR, as well as the Peterborough-Rindge Mary Varnum Plats Chapter of the DAR. Pauline was a longtime volunteer at the New Hampshire Archives in Concord and at the New Hampshire Antiquarian Society. She became a free lance writer of Genealogy Research and had written six books. Pauline had been married to Roy O. Bartlett Jr. who died in 1961, and Elmer A. Oesterlin who died in 1975. Survivors include her daughter Paulette R. Higgins of Pittsfield; two sons Francis E. Bartlett of Dublin and Dennis R. Bartlett of Rindge; eight grandchildren; stepsister June Hall of Milford; several nieces and nephews and cousins in New Jersey. Box 2316, Concord, NH 03302-2316, or to the Merrimack Valley Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogy, P.O. Box 215, Ashland, MA 01721-0215. Private burial in Millswood Cemetery in North Sutton will be at the convenience of the family.
