Richard E. Smith

February 24, 1944 — June 9, 2012

Richard Edward Smith, 68, of Rindge, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Richard was born on February 24, 1944 in Peterborough, NH, son of the late Frederick H. and M. Amanda (Deschenes) Smith. Following graduation from Conant High School in 1962, he attended New Hampshire Technical Institute and graduated in 1964 receiving his Certificate for Electronic Engineering Technician. He then completed his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with honors in 1970. From 1964 to 1972 he was employed at Sprague Electric and Honeywell, Inc. In 1972 he started his own electrical contracting business which he ran with his wife until 2007, when he semi-retired and took a position as full-time electrician at Keene State College until his death. Richard had a great love of history and could often be found researching subjects of interest like a bloodhound on a scent. When he wasn’t working or researching, he could be found tending his vegetable garden, taking long leisurely walks, or spending time with his family. He had a great passion for his beloved Mt. Monadnock, having worked there for the N.H. State Parks during his teen years. He knew the mountain very well and spent many years climbing Monadnock’s many interesting trails. Richard was always busy, always interested and eager to always refresh and expand his vast areas of interest. Richard, Dad, you will be so greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved you. His best friend, soul mate and wife of thirty two years, Annette; his children, Joel Smith and his wife Tiffany of Jaffrey, John Paul Smith of Keene, Daniel Smith and his family of Jaffrey, Mathew Smith and his family also of Jaffrey, Carol Smith and her family of Rindge; his sister Laura Barone and her family of Exeter, NH; his brother John F. Smith and his family of Jaffrey; brother-in-law Ray Charlonne of Jaffrey; nephew David Charlonne and his family of Jaffrey; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his older brother William P. Smith.

The family has also requested that no flowers be sent, however for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to either the Rindge Rescue Squad, c/o Rindge Fire Fighters Association, P.O.
