Robert Fairbanks Shepherd

January 6, 1925 — February 11, 2009

Robert Shepherd, aged 84, formerly of Rindge and Nashua, NH, died February 11th at Langdon Place in Keene, NH where he had been a resident these past 4 years.

He was born January 6, 1925 to Joe van Rypen Shepherd and Thea Powell Cummings in Needham, MA. He was a graduate of Hopkinton High School, and attended Northeastern University and Boston College. He served as a PFC in the Army from 1943 to 1946 in WWII and 1950 to 1951 in Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1945.

Bob was predeceased in 2003 by his wife, Janet Fraas, whom he married in 1952. They were married 51 years and lived many places throughout Bobs 36 year career in sales with American Lumber Treating and Koppers Company. They retired to Chalet Ridge on Lake Monomonac in Rindge, NHin 1985. They kept in touch with friends from all the places they lived and enjoyed the lake community.

He loved the out of doors and was involved with conservation groups wherever he lived. He was a Rindge Library Trustee, a member of Rotary, BSA, Project SOAR (Save Our American Resources), the Monomonac Property Owners, a past commodore and sailor with the Monomonac Lake Sailing Association and a long standing member of the White Mountain Ski Runners. He was involved in the many Episcopal churches he attended: senior warden and vestry member at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Mill Creek, PA, Church of the Good Shepherd in Nashua, NH and All Saints in Peterborough, NH.

He is survived by his daughters Andrea Sutherland of Rumney, NH and Susan Kochinskas of Putney, VT, four grandchildren: Annie and Lilly Sutherland and Hannah and Samuel Kochinskas; his brother Garet Shepherd of St. Petersburg, FL, and sisters Polly Freese of Francestown, NH and Judy Shepherd Rains of Bradenton, FL, as well as nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ingalls Memorial Library, Rindge, NH or the Cathedral of the Pines, Rindge, NH.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Michaels Episcopal Church on Bradley Avenue in Brattleboro, VT on Saturday, February 21st at 11 am.
