Robert Healey Cormack

June 28, 1927 — May 27, 2009

Peterborough, NH

Robert (Bob) Healey Cormack, 81, of Peterborough, NH, died peacefully at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough on Wednesday May 27, 2009.

Born in Ludlow, MA, he was the son of the late James P. and Florence H. Cormack.

A graduate of Ludlow High School, he began studies at Dartmouth College, which were interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Dartmouth College, graduating in 1948. In 1951 he married the late Mary (Corkum) Cormack, who died October 22, 2007. They were married 57 years

His business career began at Springfield Institution for Savings, but once again he was called back for duty in the Navy, during the Korean War. He returned to Springfield Institution for Savings until 1955 when he joined the IBM Corporation.

Bob's career at IBM was that of a rising star. As Financial Industry Sales Development Manager, Bob's Computer innovations in the 1960's lead to major breakthroughs in new applications for the banking industry. His design of trust fund accounting systems resulted in the sale of multiple systems and launched State Street Bank of Boston into the national forefront in banking. His sales team took IBM to #1 in dominance in Boston and New England. During this period he was a regular member of the 100% Club and the Golden Circle Club (a recognition program for the elite sales persons). Bob later moved up to IBMs Development Team in New York, where he helped guide IBM into industry leadership in banking.

Bob and his wife, Mary, were often crewmembers on summer charter boat trips to Nantucket with other IBM couples. Nantucket has never been the same since. They enjoyed traveling to interesting places, like Scotland and Alaska, but especially between their two worlds Peterborough and Vero Beach, Florida.

Bob retired in 1973 to settle in Peterborough, NH, where he owned the Monadnock Countryside Real Estate Company. His Community activities here involved service on the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors at the Monadnock Community Hospital and membership in the Peterborough Rotary Club and Amoskeag Veterans.
He is survived by his sister Joan Cormack of Vero Beach FL, his sister-in-law Nancy (Corkum) Friis-Hansen and her husband Poul of Westborough, MA. His brother James P. Cormack Jr., also predeceased him.
