Roberta A. Kaufhold

June 14, 1936 — June 13, 2021

Roberta Ann (Mutti) Kaufhold, 84, died peacefully at home on June 13, 2021, after a period of declining health.

Roberta was born June 14, 1936, in Proctor, VT to Orfeo and Vanda Mutti, the eldest of three children. She grew up and attended school in Proctor, VT, and received a full scholarship to Castleton Teachers College.

Her father, Orfeo, immigrated from Italy and became a stone carver at the Vermont Marble Company. Roberta worked there as a tour guide during and after high school. It was there at the Vermont Marble Company where she met her beloved Hans. She ended her college career to get married and raise a family. Roberta and Hans were married on June 30th, 1956, and moved to New Hampshire where they started their family. Six kids born in five years, thanks to a set of twins!

Roberta involved herself with the Peterborough community in many ways. She was a girl scout leader for 8 years and tutored and helped children at the local schools. Roberta was an active member of St. Peter’s/Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and loved attending the community suppers.

Roberta was a true humanitarian, and spent her whole life caring for children. She sent over 400 handmade blankets to those in need through Children’s Haven International. She was always crocheting and sewing, and gifted her children and grandchildren with countless blankets, clothes, doll clothes, and other handcrafted gifts.

Hans and Roberta spent so much of their marriage traveling, with their kids and their grandkids. Together they traveled to 49 of the 50 states, and later in life proudly became “Winter Texans.” They hosted annual family parties famous for games like “bowling for groceries,” “horse-racing,” and “dress up.” Roberta loved telling jokes and entertaining crowds with skits. Hans and Roberta were always holding hands, and could always be found dancing if they heard music. Roberta was a mother and grandmother to all, and loved babies to the very end.

Roberta only had to live 81 days without her beloved Hans, her husband of nearly 65 years, who died March 23, 2021. She is also predeceased by her daughter Erika Fiske, who passed in 2009. Roberta is survived by five of her six children; John, Peter, Tom, Heidi Kaufhold, Valli Hannings, their loving spouses, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, and her two brothers: George and Umberto “Mickey” Mutti.

As the Kaufhold monument says, “In heaven too you will have my hand.” We know they are waltzing together forever.

The Kaufhold family wishes to invite you all to the Peterborough Masonic Lodge, Union Street/Windy Row, West Peterborough, on June 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM for a celebration of life for both Roberta and Hans. Refreshments will be served. Join us in celebrating the beautiful love story of this incredible couple.
