Roland F. Thoin

Roland F. Thoin, 91, of Nutting Road in Jaffrey died Monday, March 26, 2007 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Jaffrey after a period of failing health.

Mr. Thoin was born in Winchendon, MA on June 1, 1915, son of the late Homer and Alma (St. Pierre) Thoin. He had attended schools in Canada and in Winchendon, and he had also attended a Diesel Engineering School in Boston.

Mr. Thoin achieved the rank of Sergeant while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He had been stationed in Africa. Mr. Thoin was a member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion in Jaffrey.

Mr. Thoin was a local building contractor and retired in 1979 after owning and operating R. F. Thoin Contracting for over 30 years.

Mr. Thoin was a charter member of the Jaffrey Lions Club and had belonged to the former Holy Name Society. He loved the outdoors. During the winter months he enjoyed snowmobiling and had belonged to the Monadnock Sno-Moles. During the warmer months, he enjoyed trout fishing and had been a former record holder for catching one of the states largest Brown Trout. Mr. Thoin was also an avid golfer and had been a member of the Peterborough and Winchendon Country Clubs.

Mr. Thoin was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lena (Boudrieau) Thoin of Jaffrey; his daughter Sandra M. Stewart of Jaffrey, his son James R. Thoin of Jaffrey; 5 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours which will be held on Friday March 30, 2007 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH.

Funeral Services will immediately follow calling hours at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Winchendon, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Thoin'™s name to the Jaffrey War Memorial Committee, Post Office Box 565, Jaffrey, NH 03452-0565
