James G. Poodiack, Sr.

James G. Poodiack, Sr., 72, of The Villages in Florida died Saturday May 7, 2011 following a courageous five month battle with cancer.

He was born May 28, 1938 in Jaffrey son of the late Frank J. and Julia M. (Heil) Poodiack. His formative years were spent in Boston where he lived for eighteen years. He was a 1956 graduate of Boston Technical High School. He then moved to Peterborough where he resided for the next forty six years.

Jim served with the Untied States Marine Corps from 1961 until 1967.

Jim worked as a tool and die maker for Hitchiner Mfg Co in Milford for several years. In 1972 he became an original founding member and part owner of the Peterboro Tool Company in West Peterborough along with Ken Stockwell and Ken Rogers. As well as being a co-owner he was a mold maker, lead man and tool engineer for the company. Jim retired in 2005 when he moved to the Villages in Florida.

For many years he served the Town of Peterborough as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. For several years he was assistant coach of the Micros Little League baseball team. Jim enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, snow-mobiling, light carpentry and stock car racing. He was an avid reader and Red Sox fan; but most cherished to him was the time spent with family.

Survivors include his wife of forty eight years, Diana (Burbee) Poodiack; his daughter Lisa H. Gilbo of Bennington; his son James G. Poodiack, Jr. and his wife Liana of Bennington; three grandsons Bobby Gilbo of Antrim, Travis Poodiack and Kyle Poodiack both of Bennington; a sister Betty Burgoyne and her husband Ray of Jaffrey; several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey on Sunday May 22 from 4:00 to 6:00PM.

Graveside committal services will be held Monday May 23, 2011 at 3:00PM in Pine Hill Cemetery, Peterborough, NH. Rev. Gerald Gerry Belanger, pastor at St. Peter of the Devine Mercy Parishin Peterborough will officiate.
