John A. Lafreniere, Sr.

Jaffrey, NH John A. Lafreniere, Sr., 86, of Gilmore Pond Road, Jaffrey died peacefully Wednesday May 18, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Jaffrey following a period of failing health. He was born November 26, 1924 in Sharon NH son of the late John E. and Dorothy (Smith) Lafreniere . He was a graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and has been a life long resident of this community. John enlisted in the United States Army on July 22, 1943, and served with the 459th Amphibian Truck Company in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater and was awarded the campaign ribbon with four bronze stars and arrowhead. He was received an honorable discharge on November 16, 1945. He was a life member of both the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion of Jaffrey and the Jaffrey Memorial Post #5613 VFW. Immediately following World War II, John returned to Jaffrey and began work as an auto mechanic at Hackler Auto Sales. A position he held until his retirement. In 1952 he joined the Jaffrey Police Department as a special police officer. He worked under three police chiefs, Hubert ONeil, Lucien Vignault and Arthur Rivard. He retired as a Sergeant in 1978 and received a plaque from the Town of Jaffrey for his twenty six years of service to the Department. In his leisure time, John enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading, especially westerns and harlequin romace novels. On April 14, 1947 he married Theodora Barbara Loomis, she died August 12, 1990. Survivors include his two sons, Charles E. Lafreniere of Jaffrey and Bruce Lafreniere of New Ipswich; 15 grandchildren Sahron , Wess, Cory, Ben, Katlin, Meagan, Angie, Andy, Nathan, Tammy, Michelle, Michael, Jonathan, Christopher and Jennifer; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his sister Caroline Kolapakka of Troy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Sharon Murphy of Rindge; his son John A. Lafreniere Jr of Epsom and his sister Marie T. Hunt of Jaffrey.
