Virginia Vaughan Hauhart

Virginia Vaughan Hauhart, 95, of Peterborough, NH died March 24, 2009, at the RiverMead Retirement Community.

Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on September 15, 1913, she was the daughter of George Albert and Ada May (Vaughan) Chappell. Mrs. Hauhart spent her youth in both Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, Missouri.
She attended Washington University and St. Louis University.

Before her marriage, she worked for the St. Louis Public Library. In 1935 she married Norval Reitz Hauhart, of St. Louis. He died in Peterborough in 1990. Mr. Hauhart's employment with the Shell Oil Co. took them and their two young children to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. in 1944 where they resided until 1971. They retired to Peterborough where they were active volunteers at the Peterborough Historical Society and the Monadnock Community Hospital. Mrs. Hauhart was an avid bridge player and reader and had a continuing interest in live theater performances. She moved to RiverMead in 1997.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, George A. Chappell, Jr. and Robert S. Chappell, and one sister, Dorothy Chappell Partenheimer.

She is survived by a daughter, Roberta Jean Hauhart Marder, of Southern Pines, N.C., and a son, James Norval Hauhart, of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Joshua C. Marder of Manchester, N.H.; Seth H. Marder of Columbus, Ohio; Sara V. Marder of Southern Pines, N.C.; and Dutton R. Hauhart and Kirby S. Hauhart both of Alexandria, VA. and one great grandson, Samuel A. Marder of Amherst, N.H.
