Listen to Obituary

David J. Houston of Venice, Florida, and Jaffrey, New Hampshire, died peacefully in his Florida home on Wednesday, May 20th, after a long illness. Dave was 91.

A loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, and uncle, David will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and business savvy. He was born in Somerville, Massachusetts to Joseph and Elizabeth (Glavine) Houston. He graduated from Wayland High School and Boston College. David served in the Army and attained the rank of Captain before leaving the military to embark upon a successful career in business. David was a talented salesman and entrepreneur who earned the respect of others in the business community.

In addition to being very active in his Church and the Lion’s Club, David was invited to serve on several local boards and committees in his community including Peterborough Savings Bank and Monadnock Community Hospital Investment Committee. David had many varied hobbies including flying, golf, and sled-dog racing. He did the latter with his three children and created fond memories for them of “mushing” through the woods of the northeast. David was an avid New England Patriots fan who enjoyed following every game.

David is pre-deceased by his parents, his daughter Jane Ann Kelly, and his first wife of 49 years, Patricia Houston.

He is survived by his wife Melinda Houston of Venice, FL; his sisters Bernadette White of Walpole, MA, Catherine (Robert) Falvey of Dedham, MA and Agnes Donovan of Dedham, MA; his brother Daniel (Cherie) Houston of Franklin, MA; his sons Robert (Carolyn) Houston of Wells, ME and Jeffrey Houston of Hampton, NH; his grandchildren Emma Houston of Wells, ME and Elizabeth Houston; his step-grandchildren Dr. Andre (Chelsea) Trzaskowski of Falmouth, ME and Gabrielle Trzaskowski of Wells, ME; great-grandchildren Eleanor Durocher and Isla Trzaskowski; and many nephews and nieces.
