Deborah A. Dugan, 68, of Dublin, NH passed away on October 1, 2023, at home in the loving embrace of her husband of 46 years, John “Jack” Dugan. Deborah, known to Jack as “Debbie” owing to their 50 years together but “Deb” to almost everybody else, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in June.
Deb was born on June 20, 1955, in Winchester, MA. She grew up in Stoneham, MA and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1973. After high school Deb worked as a medical assistant and then the office manager of a physician’s office in Revere, MA.
On September 30, 1977, Deb married Jack and together they soon relocated to Townsend MA and then on to Keene, NH in 1990 to raise their two children, Kerry, and Michael. While living in Keene, Deb devoted much of her energy to her family but also worked at Landmark College in VT and obtained her degree from Keene State College. In 2004 Deb and Jack moved to Dublin, NH where she had the opportunity to spend more time dedicated to her real passion - creating art in her studio at home. She also enjoyed hiking on the many trails near home with Jack and their late dog Peanut and more recently with Oliver, their very energetic Boston Terrier.
Deb was an extremely creative and inquisitive person. Her interests and activities ranged from travel adventures and journaling to knitting and weaving to cooking and gardening to bird watching and reading books from an array of subjects including art, biographies, mindfulness, spirituality, Agatha Christie mysteries, and the classics. Throughout her entire life she experienced and appreciated to the fullest the wonders of nature in the forests and along the seacoast of New England.
She is predeceased by her parents, Robert, and Dorothy Dillon, as well as her sister Diane Dillon.
Deb is survived by her husband, Jack Dugan of Dublin, NH, their daughter Kerry and son-in-law Scott Bachynski of Keene, NH; their son Michael Dugan of Keene, NH; their amazing granddaughter Brynn Bachynski; and Fenway, their beloved granddog. Deb is also survived by her brother Robert (“Bob”) Dillon and his spouse Deborah Bleau of Latham, NY; her in-laws Peter and Barbara Dugan of Marlborough, MA and James (“Jim”) and Maureen Dugan of Woburn, MA; many nephews and a niece; and dear friends including members of her weekly spinning (as in wool!) group and the local arts community.
Per Deb’s wishes there will be no formal services but rather a small gathering of family members, the spreading of some of her ashes in her favorite locations, and subsequently a burial of her remaining ashes at the Dublin Town Cemetery in the spring.
Please consider making a memorial donation in Deb’s name to Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue
(saveyourassrescue.com) in South Acworth, NH, or the Winchester Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (winchesterwildlife.org) in Winchester, NH.
