Frederick M. Stratton

Frederick M. Stratton, 92 of Jaffrey, NH died Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Applewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, NH after a period of failing health.

Mr. Stratton was born in Jaffrey on February 24, 1924 and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Mark and Elvira (Smith) Stratton and attended schools in Jaffrey before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served in North Africa during WWII. He was a member of the 40 and 8, as well as the Jaffrey VFW Memorial Post #5163, and the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 in Jaffrey.

Mr. Stratton worked as an auto mechanic throughout the area, having worked for many years at Hackler’s Plymouth Garage in Jaffrey, as well as Jack Emmes and the Peterborough Jeep Chrysler Dodge and the Jenney Gas Station in Rindge. He owned and operated the Texaco Garage on River Street in Jaffrey and retired after working for many years at the T-Bird gas station, also in Jaffrey.

He enjoyed a good game of cribbage as well as snowmobiling and motorcycling. He had traveled up and down the east coast on his Harley Davidson. Fred absolutely loved the applesauce his family made for him from the apples from his own apple trees.

Mr. Stratton was preceded in death by his son Richard Stratton in 2006, his brother Albert in 2011, his sister Elinor in 1997, and his brother Clarence who died when he was six months old.
Mr. Stratton is survived by his wife, Nancy (Kenney) Stratton of Keene; his step-daughter Mary Blake of Fitzwilliam; his son James Stratton of Concord; his grandchildren; Richard, Rebecca, Brenda, Autumn and Jamie; his great-grandchildren; his 2 sisters, Vera Pomponio of Jaffrey, NH and Betty Affolter of Troy, Ohio and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made in Mr. Stratton’s name to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.

At Mr. Stratton’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service with Military Honors will take place on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
